History
HEAD OF DEPARTMENT – Mr G A Shorrock
THE DEPARTMENT
The History Department is a strong, thriving department of 4 graduate historians balancing youthful enthusiasm with experience. The department teaches in a variety of ways using formal didactic lessons, research, ICT, Interactive work, student presentations, source work and essay writing. In the last Ofsted, in 2008, the lessons that were observed in history were rated as excellent.
The Department has a suite of three subject specific rooms, each with an inter active whiteboard. There are also available a full set of class lap tops with a wireless internet system. Each room has its own video/DVD player and filing cabinets.
History is taught to all junior years with 5 form groups in each year. At GCSE there are 4 exam groups which vary in size. At AS/A2 the subject is very popular with 2 groups in years 12 and 13, respectively, and the possibility of a third.
Like all History Departments new courses are being implemented and amended all the time
