Sixth Form

The vast majority of students at King's continue their studies into the sixth form. The school also admits a significant number of external entrants to the sixth form each year. Boys from a wide variety of schools join us to study 'A' levels and often feature prominently in the schools academic and extracurricular successes. The sixth form of approximately 250 students is characterised by strong academic, cultural and sporting traditions, high all-round standards, a happy, purposeful atmosphere and a pleasant learning environment.

The school offers a broad choice of academic subjects, complementary tutorial, general studies and games programmes and numerous opportunities for extracurricular involvement, leadership and personal development. Our aim is to help all sixth formers integrate quickly, make a smooth transition to 'A' level courses and fulfil their academic potential whilst developing into responsible and respected leaders in the community. Examination success ensures that more than 90% of our students are able to move off to either their first choice university courses or direct entry into their chosen careers. Each student benefits from a system of regular monitoring and reporting and from individual guidance, support and advice provided by the pastoral team. The head of sixth form is supported by heads of year 12 and 13 and an experienced team of tutors in overseeing the academic and personal development of all sixth formers.

In the Sixth form we enjoy a close working relationship with our sister grammar school , Kesteven and Grantham Girls School. This link provides a wider range of courses to follow as well as accompanying social benefits.

At present Sixth formers study 3 or 4 Advanced Level (A - level) subjects. In the first instance (through Year 12) these courses (normally four) will be followed as AS courses. Students will then continue with the courses at A2 in Year 13. Only in exceptional circumstances, and at the Headmaster's discretion, will students be permitted to drop to two A - level subjects (excluding General Studies). All students take General Studies as a further subject at A-level and students participate in Games and Enrichment Studies including Personal Development, Careers and HE guidance.

The school has recently opened a new state of art 6th Form Centre (in the former Geography 'Vicarage' block) which hosts a Starbucks-style Coffee Bar, IT study area and WiFi hotspot. We hope to further extend the 6th Form Centre to incorporate a refectory for our senior pupils and enlarged social space.
