Battlefields Trip

Year 9 students visit World War 1 battlefields in France and Belgium.

Forty Year 9 students and four staff travelled to visit the WW1 battlefields of France and Belgium.  On arriving in Belgium they headed straight to the trenches and then took in a German cemetery at Langemark. Staying in Ypres the group attended the Menin Gate Ceremony on the first evening.  On the second day they took in Theipval, the Wellington Quarry at Arras, the Newfoundland Memorial at Beaumont Hamel, the Lochnagar Crater and the South African cemetery.  On the final day they visited Sanctuary Wood, the Passchendaele Museum and Tyne Cot Cemetery, where they paid their respects to the fallen with a reading and the laying of a wreath by two boys from King’s School CCF.
