U15’s Through to Last 16 of Natwest Vase

King’s School U15 team are through to the last 16 of the Natwest Vase after a 54-5 win over Brunt’s Academy on Monday night. King's had previously defeated St. George’s, Carre’s and De Aston to reach the last 32 stage of the competition. The team came into the game in good form having recently defeated Trent College and were hoping to take that positive momentum into this cup game. Knockout stage games can often be cagey affairs and so it proved early on, with both teams making a succession of handling errors that led to numerous scrums. Finally, King's began to dominate the set piece and win the collisions on the gain line. As the Brunt's penalty count grew, King's converted these into points through quick scores and off the tee through the boots of Max Fairlie and Ben Lee. However, some poor discipline from King's allowed Brunt's to nab a momentum swinging try just before the break. King's came flying out of the blocks in the second half, lifting their game in search of the win. Oliver Coyle finally broke free of the Brunt's defence and made some excellent attacking runs. Will Czajkowski dominated the gain line with every carry, but also had the presence of mind and skill to link well with his outside backs. Man of the Match Will Dickson typified the intensity and directness of the forward pack by making crucial tackles, carrying well and being competitive at each and every breakdown. King's, who are now just three games away from competing in a national final, will now play the winner of Harrogate Grammar and Wolfreton School in the last 16.
