The King's School Grantham

Isaac Newton's School

    Oversubscription, Reserve List and appeals

If you have been advised that your son has been refused a place even though he passed the Lincolnshire 11+ tests and King's is your preferred school, this is due to the school being oversubscribed for entry into Year 7 in September 2018.

At this stage, we recommend that you accept the school place offered, this will not prejudice consideration for a place at King' should one become available.  In the meantime your son’s name will be on our reserve list which is ranked in order of our current admission criteria. If a place for your son becomes available because other candidates decline their offer, your home Local Authority will contact you again after 10 April 2018.

In accordance with the admission code we are required to advise all parents and carers that you that you may apply for admission to an alternative Lincolnshire Consortium Grammar School and/or you can exercise your right to appeal against the decision of The King’s School not to admit your son, if the school was named as a preferred school on the application made to your home Local Authority.  If you wish to make an appeal and have applied for the place online through Lincolnshire County Council you will be able to lodge an appeal online, otherwise you may download documentation and a guide to the process at: or you can write to the Clerk to the Governors at the School’s address to request the required documentation. Please ensure that you lodge your appeal, along with any supporting documentation, either online or with the school by 17 April 2018 to be considered in the first round of appeals. Please mark the envelope ‘Appeals’ in the top left-hand corner.

For those students who did not pass the 11+ but parents/carers still wish to appeal against the decision not to admit for September 2018, parents/carers should request appeals documentation as outlined above providing that King's was a named preference on the original application made to your home Local Authority.

Please find a copy of the guidance on the appeal process available to download below.
